Real technology in healthcare

As the debate continues over healthcare reform and cost control we continue to hear about electronic health records. While this is a great step forward (see my other post about Google Health) it is great to see other applications.

Airstrip Technologies is using the iPhone as a remote monitoring device for vital signs. I hope this is just the beginning of more technology from this great company. I hope to find the opportunity to provide healthcare marketing services to companies like this.

Google Health

The way we access healthcare is going to change. No way around it. Google is trying to bring you some control over your own health information. I have just begun filling out my own Google health profile.

Google outlines its advantages as:

Google Health allows you to store and manage all of your health information in one central place. And it's completely free. All you need to get started is a Google username and password.

Google believes that you own your medical records and should have easy access to them. The way we see it, it's your information; why shouldn't you control it?

  • Keep your doctors up-to-date
  • Stop filling out the same paperwork every time you see a new doctor
  • Avoid getting the same lab tests done over and over again because your doctor cannot get copies of your latest results
  • Don't lose your medical records because of a move, change in jobs or health insurance
  • Share your health information securely with a family member, caregiver, or doctor
I am writing this while hearing news that President Obama will announce a public/private partnership in healthcare tomorrow.

Let's see who is going to play.
